For seven years, Toronto has hosted the annual L’Oreal Fashion Week, which ran from March 17th through March 22nd this year. Held in Nathan Phillips Square, the event’s slogan this season was “Wear in the World?” The show lived up to the maxim: Max Chernitsov, in partnership with Russian Fashion Week, showed a collection on the opening day. The event also hosted Talenti Moda Milano, a consortium of four Milan-based fashion schools, in conjunction with the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Toronto. The affair highlighted collections from the schools’ graduating students.

L’Oreal Fashion Week was originally created to generate global publicity for Canadian fashion, and it’s done a good job. Sixty-nine designers and brands showcased their looks in 33 different shows, held in 30,000 square foot fashion tents! And they even opened all the events prior to opening night to the public. Evan Biddell, the winner of Project Runway, showed his designs. Jeanne Beker of Fashion Television and the popular BRATZ line will introduce Diesel Kids, a children’s line from fashion brand Diesel for the stylish younger set. Some other designers whose collections were displayed include Evan and Dean, Joe Fresh, Pink Tartan, Lucian Matis, Phillip Sparks, Andy The-Anh, David Dixon, GSUS, and RUDSAK.

The week also featured a special show called Red Dress – The Heart Truth, where Canadian celebrities modeled dresses by twenty top Canadian designers in support of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. They finished off the gala week with Kid Robot at CiRCA on Friday night and a Drake Survivor Brunch on Saturday morning. Three cheers for Canada, fashion and charity!
