What to Wear For…An Interview

Got a big interview? Don’t know
what to wear? Don’t stress! Interview fashions have evolved from the good ol’
days of stodgy blazers and slacks. Dress to impress and set yourself apart from
the sea of entry level hopefuls in poorly fitted trousers. Here are a few tips:
- Go for color. That’s right, you don’t have to wear a white dress shirt and black slacks
and jacket to look professional. Crème, beige, grey, charcoal, and
chocolate brown are all very fashionable and easy to find in blouses and
pantsuits, and neutrals are formal enough to keep you out of the “she
isn’t serious” category. If you can’t splurge on a new suit right now,
jazz yours up with a pastel colored button up dress shirt from Target.
- Think outside the pantsuit. The
classic pants and jacket are tried and true, but they don’t exactly scream
original. Try a pencil skirt with a tucked in blouse, or a short sleeved
jacket. You’ll look fashion forward, not employment desperate.
- Feminine
details are hot. Slacks and big shouldered jackets make us look manly,
and they look especially ridiculous on petite girls. Girly accents like
lace, frills and puffed sleeves are in fashion right now, and they’ll add
class and style to any interview duds. Go for a ruched hem on your skirt
or sleeves, or try an au courant high necked frilly dress shirt in white
or cream.
- Go to the
tailor. Every outfit looks 100% better when it fits right, and chances
are if your clothes are straight off the rack, they don’t. Even
inexpensive pieces can be tailored, and the tailor can often add better
structure to the seams or new buttons that can make a cheap outfit from
Kohl’s look like a five star runway fashion.
