Serves: 4-6

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cooking Time: 30-35 minutes

Total Time: 45-50 minutes

This popular French dish has become an American classic! Cooking novices will be surprised at how easy it is to make, and eating it feels like you’re dining on the Riviera. We’ve made a couple of small changes to make it more affordable, simple and attuned to American cooking flavors. Your family will be impressed with this gourmet-style dish!

Ingredients:

4 boneless skinless chicken breasts

1 cup of shredded mixed cheese (we like Monterey and Colby Jack)

4 slices of Swiss cheese

8 slices of deli sliced thin cooked ham

½ cup of seasoned bread crumbs

1 cup of white flour

1 tbsp. of Lowry’s seasoning salt (it’s the best!)

1 ½ cup of buttermilk

Toothpicks

9x13 glass baking dish (Pyrex, etc.)

Nonstick cooking spray

Directions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Coat a 9x13” glass baking dish with nonstick cooking spray or canola oil.
  2. Slice chicken breasts in half down the long side. Pound each breast half with the smooth side of a meat mallet until about 1/4” thick. Coat chicken in buttermilk.
  3. Mix white flour and seasoning salt together evenly and spread out on a plate. Coat each chicken breast half in the mixture. Lay breast halves flat. Put the following on top of each piece of chicken: two slices of ham, ½ slice of Swiss cheese, and a sprinkling of shredded cheese. Roll up each breast half and secure with a toothpick. Place all rolled up chicken breast halves in baking dish and sprinkle evenly with bread crumbs.
  4. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until chicken is golden-brown. Remove from oven and sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top of each piece of chicken. Return to oven for two minutes to let the cheese melt. Remove toothpicks and serve.

Recommended side dishes: green beans, garlic mashed potatoes, biscuits, corn on the cob
